Now taking your predictions…

17 Dec

**THE POLLS ARE NOW CLOSED**

Forget the holiday bowl games or the NFL postseason, if you want major payoff for your educated guesses, State of D’Nile is the place to be. We’ve nearly reached the end of our anxious wait for Baby Finnshallah and are now taking your bets.

Below is the calendar, which I’ll update daily. Click to make it bigger.
due-date-calendar3.jpg

Leave a comment with your prediction for D-day. A few clues to help you make your best guess.

*The first due date given was December 30. This is our anniversary.
*The second was January 6 based on an ultrasound at around 16 weeks. I like that date.
*The third was January 13 based on a 20 week ultrasound. Our doctor here likes this one, I don’t.
*My birthday is Jan. 4.
*My mom arrives on Jan.1 and leaves on Jan. 16.
*If the baby follows my personality type, he will be either impatient and early or fashionably late. If he follows Patrick, he will be pretty much on time unless he has a wife that seriously underestimates the time it takes to get ready and makes him 15 minutes late anywhere he goes.
*I’m cutting it off at Jan 20. The Dr. said the 21st is the earliest he’d induce, but if it gets to that point I’m going to convince him to do it the 20th instead because it would be cool for the baby’s birthday to be the same as Inauguration Day. Stop snickering, I think it’s cool.

No more than three people can share a date. The winner(s) will receive an authentic Egyptian prize to be sent home with one of our mothers and then shipped directly to you.

The lines are open…

I like January 1st. I think the baby arrives right before grandma does. Plus, it’d be ridiculously good luck to be born on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day, and I think Christmas would be too soon.

Jan 11th, because there is no way you will go to Feb 11th, and that is my birthday! πŸ™‚

  3. mom December 17, 2007 at 5:11 pm #

That kid better take after Patrick and be on time or you’re going to be stuck with this grandma for awhile!

Put us down for Jan 2nd. It’s Carrie’s b-day, and as a bonus you get to enjoy people’s comments like: If only you would have had the baby yesterday… could have been the 1st baby of the new year if you weren’t so slow, trust me, the list goes on. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. PS: Your sofa & loveseat are adjusting well to us. πŸ™‚

I’m picking January 8th for no other reason except I happen to like the number 8! I also want Grandma DeLeon to have at least a week with the little guy since the cuddles are going to have to last her awhile.

  6. Cody December 17, 2007 at 8:36 pm #

My heart says December 30th but my head says January 14th.

  7. BiV December 17, 2007 at 9:18 pm #

My first baby was born on Jan 8th, so that’s my prediction. Good luck on D-day, and I’m wishing you a smooth last few weeks.

  8. Stacy December 17, 2007 at 10:27 pm #

Put me down for January 10th. I think I’m going to be right. I like to win and I like prizes.

  9. Miles December 17, 2007 at 10:28 pm #

    December 31. It’s a new beginning.

  10. Dre December 17, 2007 at 10:29 pm #

My initial choice was Dec. 30 so you could use him as a tax writeoff but then I remembered you won’t be paying taxes. (Some people will do anything to protest the war.) So my next vote is for Jan. 5 to give Luisa time to get there and get over her jet lag so she will be able to enjoy the occasion. Like it’s all about her.

great grandma bertha says Jan. 7th. It’s her b-day and it would be easy to remember.

  12. Grandpa & Grandma December 18, 2007 at 5:08 am #

As our first great-grand child is about to be born and most anticipated baby to our family and friends,Let it be born when he is ready and mama & papa Mason will love him instantly !

    Love you three
    Grandpa & Grandma De Leon

    We picked Jan.3rd

  13. DaD December 18, 2007 at 5:40 am #

Mom & I choose the 4th ’cause it was a really good day for us back in 83.

  14. Javi (the brother) December 18, 2007 at 2:43 pm #

As much as the 13th would be better than the 4th, I’m going with the 7th.

  15. Uncle Joel & Aunt Betty December 18, 2007 at 4:59 pm #

We are placing our bets on the lucky 7th. The bright eastern star will be shining that night! Good luck & God Bless

  16. Susie H December 18, 2007 at 9:58 pm #

I have chosen the 7th because I was born on the 7th and it’s been a good number for me. Good luck, have fun, and enjoy the little one.

  17. Patrick December 18, 2007 at 11:23 pm #

The father of the child is guessing Dec 31. Two reasons: 1) I don’t have any other New Years Eve plans, so that would be kind of exciting; 2) I’m going with the doctor (Miles) who has delivered dozens/hundreds of babies. I mean, he’s got to know, right?

  18. yvette December 19, 2007 at 12:52 am #

Nicholas has chosen the 12th. He thinks it’s a good day for a baby, unless it’s raining. I don’t understand the logic, but that’s what he said.

I say the 13th. The baby will trick you by thinking that you’ll have it on the12th, but like Nicholas, it will make you wait until midnight. Aren’t you lucky it won’t be a Friday. Much, much love

  19. tracy m December 19, 2007 at 10:25 am #

    Going with the ninth…

Sometimes first babies come early- sometimes. Hey, as long at it’s when your mama is there, it’s all good.

  20. Nick & Stacie December 19, 2007 at 6:37 pm #

Put us down for the 30th at 11:33 PM. You heard it here first.

  21. Uncle David December 20, 2007 at 2:10 pm #

I am going with the 13th too. Historically it is only unlucky for the Knights Templar, but it was good for Nick.

  22. Mark & Fran Arnold December 21, 2007 at 3:00 am #

    we like the 3rd

  23. Mickey December 21, 2007 at 6:36 am #

Wow, what a way to get a lot of comments. I’m jealous.

I don’t want to cause any trouble but I think your mom better change her flight. This baby isn’t coming until the 15th. Doctors and ultrasounds don’t know everything. I know red headed babies (I’m assuming yours will be one) and they don’t come until they’re good and ready. Sorry, but I really hope I win.

Clearly, you don’t know Grandma. She won’t leave until that baby is born. πŸ™‚

  1. Happy Birthday Finn-shallah « State of d’Nile - January 25, 2009

[…] Our challenge to predict Finn’s arrival attracted lots of guesses and comments. People were sure they were on the right date. But if you’ll look at the calendar, you’ll notice the last guess was over a week before Finn made his debut. In fact, the calendar doesn’t even go as far as January 24 because we were so sure Finn would have come long before then. I personally bet on him coming 18 days before then. Oh silly silly me. […]
