No news is…no news

7 Jan

In his first act of disobedience, Finnshallah did not decide to make his debut yesterday, despite my certainty that January 6 is a good round number for a birthday. Today there’s a cluster of people predicting this will be the day, plus its Grandma Bertha and Uncle Joel’s birthdays, so I think that’s a good sign. We’re venturing out to the other side of the city to explore the Khan al-Khalili bazaar. Far from home, unpaved roads in the form of a maze, scary men yelling “I don’t know what you want, but I have what you need!” I think all this together may brew the perfect conditions for labor.

Yesterday Patrick got a mini-Mini CD player so we could play the awesome Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, etc rock lullabies that Mom and Dad gave Finn for Christmas. The hood opens and the Cd tray comes out of the front bumper. After years of wanting one, I finally have a Mini!

Happy birthday Grandma Bertha and Uncle Joel!!!

Hopefully the second coming will occur today. 🙂

I am sorry Luisa, but I think he will be an 11th, 12th or 13th baby. Hopefully not, but maybe we will win something from the market. Much love to all,

Truly, this must be thought if as a transgression rather than a willful act of disobedience! 🙂 Frankly, I wouldn’t wish an extension of ANY mother’s due date, but as long as we’re waiting, I vote for either the 14th (Aaron’s BD) or the 15th (our Anniv). Either way, good luck and God bless!

Morning of Jan 8, and still no news. Melissa’s getting a little impatient. On Saturday the doctor officially said everything is ready to go, and at this point it’s just up to the baby. We’ve tried everything — long walks, bumpy car rides, (sort of) spicy food, pressure points, pleading with him to come…no dice. This tells us one of three things about him: 1) he inherited my mellow, “whatever” streak; 2) he inherited both of our stubborn streaks; or 3) he’s Egyptian, and showing up on time isn’t a priority.

Hey guys? He’s coming on the 14th, remember?

  6. Stacy January 8, 2008 at 10:30 pm #

    No way! It’s the 10th!

Now ya’ll have to argue whether your guess is valid to Egyptian or US time. 😀

David and I were wondering the same thing.

Good point, bro. We’re going by Egyptian time.

Today is Islamic New Years, so everything in the city is shut down. That means today is just inconvenient enough to be the day, right? Right?

    Babies looooove inconvenient.

Luisa & I went to the church where the Holy Family is supposed to have stayed, then went to another church and lit a candle…and still no labor. There’s got to be something we’re missing here.

A few people have expressed concern over the baby’s name. Rest assured that his name will (probably) be Finn, not Finnshallah or Finnshellelagh. Although I’m sure numerous nicknames will come along the way, courtesy especially of Uncles Nick and Christian, we’re going to stick with short and simple.

Just when I was getting used to Finnshellelagh Javier Abdul Mason.

  13. Javi (the brother) January 9, 2008 at 10:16 pm #

I thought it was going to be Finnsallah Quinnsllah Mohammed-Abdul Mason…

Where have all of you been with these great suggestions? We should have just opened it up and had “the people” name our baby for us. (Something tells me Melissa will frown when she reads that suggestion.)

We need more updates. Any contractions? Have you been feeling fluish? Are you at all dilated? I know these are such personal questions, but inquiring minds want to know.

Oh by the way, Patrick did not mention Uncle David. He has been restraining himself on his comments for fear of DeLeon repercussions and damnation.

  17. Aunt Yvette January 10, 2008 at 1:42 am #

Oh and what are you doing up at 1 in the am.

These comments are hilarious! Believe me, we have tried everything with this baby. I give Melissa daily tummy rubs and implore Finn to make an appearance.
Patrick and I lit a candle in one of the churches and he made a donation in another. We decided that if Melissa called us within 10 minutes of either, the baby would be named after the saint whose church we were in. But apparently Finn didn’t like George, Sergious, or Jacob the Cut.

A woman in our ward, who is a school teacher, actually had a contest for all the students in her school to name her baby. She gave him the first name that won the vote and the middle name of the school. But I’m not sure that Finnshallah American University at Cairo Mason has quite the ring to it that you’re looking for.

Oh I feel so bad for Luisa. She needs to have some time with this baby before she returns home. I also wish he would hurry up because I find myself checking the blog every ten minutes hoping for news. Okay, I feel bad for Melissa too…
