Must Be Nice…

25 Feb

…to just fold yourself over and go to sleep whenever and wherever you want.

That would be nice about now.

Patrick is out of town on the second of a semester-full of short trips. He gave a lecture on his book at Southern Virginia University this morning.

I guess the publication of Patrick’s first book is another big thing that happened during my recent blogging hiatus. Here it is:

You know you want it for you and a dozen of your closest friends.

My husband has a book on Amazon. I’m ridiculously proud of him. He’s totally embarrassed by how proud I am.

Anyhoo, I’m holding up as a temporary single parent. The kids seem to sense my vulnerability and every so often they all synchronize and go crazy at which point I throw up my arms and yell “everyone in the car!” This morning we went to Shipshewana, a small Amish town about an hour away. There’s a great bulk store there that sells all kinds of baking products, every spice imaginable and yummy cheese. I had my iPod playing and realized at some point that Finn was singing along to some of my music, like words and everything. I’m almost as proud of hearing him sing “Crazy Mary” along with Eddie Vedder as I am of my husband publishing a book.  I’ve noticed a pattern to the songs he asks for, usually a fierce drumbeat and a wailing guitar. That’s my boy.

2 hours and 15 minutes until the kids’ bedtime.

I was torn when my 3 year old started singing along to the Black Eyed Peas. Wasn’t sure if that was good or bad…

One drum set for Finn, guitar for Rhett and an inflatable floor mattress for Lucy. I’m on it. See you in a couple of weeks.

My son also has a book at Barnes and Noble. I know. I checked.
I’m very glad I’m not the grandmother who will be giving Finn a drum set. I want to be on speaking terms with his parents for the foreseeable future.

So amazing to see Patrick’s book in print! With the middle initial “Q”, he was born to publish.
