In homeschool today, we learned about poetry. Have you ever tried to explain poetry to five-year olds? Anyways, it was mildly successful because afterwards I gave the kids the task of writing a poem together. They did a decent job and enjoyed it so much that they wrote two more. Here they are for your reading pleasure.
Poem #1- The Fish Gets a Wish
I have a little fish
He lives in a tank.
My fish gets a wish
and goes to the bank.
His wish was kind of funny,
So funny that I cried.
He wished for lots of money
to buy a great big slide.
The slide is now in his tank,
a great big slide to him.
He slides down it all day long
while wearing a great big grin.
Poem #2- The Volcano Burps
The volcano had so much lava
that it burped.
It had too much food
like spaghetti that it slurped.
The volcano had so much to drink
that all its lava spewed.
Everything got covered up
by the volcano’s chewed up food.
Poem #3- The Mason Family
The Mason family has a Dad,
the Dad plays games a bunch.
In the morning he goes to work,
and then comes home for lunch.
The Mason family has a Mom,
who cooks really good food.
She even makes peaches,
and has a happy mood.
The Mason family has a Finn,
he’s really good at chess.
He likes to wiggle and to squirm,
and makes a real big mess.
The Mason family has a Rhett,
who plays well with his brother.
He builds stuff with the Legos,
and likes to hug his mother.
The Mason family has a Lucy,
she acts like she’s the queen.
She likes to make everyone do what she wants,
and she always likes to sing.
We love our Mason family,
we are together every day.
We yell and fight sometimes,
but we’re best friends anyway.
That last one is full of lies. But it’s nice that this is how they see our family. Tomorrow, we’re tackling haikus. Stay tuned! Also, Venice, day 2 coming up later tonight.
I love #3!
That was neat, they have creative minds!
